KEVIN WELLS
October 27 to November 28, 2010
Our back gallery in November features a selection of 16 Polaroids by Portland photographer, Kevin Wells. Shot between 1990 & 2002, the images offer a subtle counterpoint to the Trash Cans & Tires featured in the main gallery, which were taken at roughly the same time. Like them, the soiled feet, glowing doorway, pink toilet & cellar door (to name a few) bespeak of a photographer with an eye for the exceptional amid the mundane. However, unlike the sharp clarity of his gelatin silver prints, the Polaroids offer a singular kind of flat color, like a memory that’s still distinct but growing fuzzy with the passing of days.
